just before it started to snow here in our little village, at the foot of the mountain, we escaped to one of our favourite lakes nearby.its a 20 minute ride with the car and the weather is always a bit different than here, ‘because its closer into the mountains and higher up.
the day we got out there the sun was shining and the temperature was pretty mild for winter. so we took ourselfes into a different world where we were surrounded with the finest powder snow. the girls discovered the sparkly glittery characteristics of the snow.their eyes were as sparkly and bright as the snow.they tasted, sensed and heard the squeaky sound of snow.to me it was like they rediscovered the snow in a new dimension. with so much joy and fascination whereas last year they were way more shy and careful with it.the warm sun shining on them and the soft powder snow i’m sure helped lots with feeling comfortable.
but i realized that for my girls it also makes a difference of what they wear.i get asked a lot about how to dress them.well, i don’t have the perfect solution, but last year i already realized that they felt more free and comfortable moving and walking in the snow when wearing layers of wool instead of those warm, waterproof but then stiff and heavy snowsuits.of course on those winterdays where its raining or snowing a lot or where the wind is blowing, i put them in their snowsuits.we bought them from finkid and of course bought them big enough, so that they still fit this year as well. and we like them.
underneath i let them wear the warmest woolen undergarment from woolpower (socks also), but of course you can use whatever sort of wool underwear, just make sure its warm. woolpower
my girls wear warm winterboots from gea (all twinmama’s get the second pair of shoes for free when buying them directly in their store)
last but not least.i’m glad my girls started to wear gloves.before i used wrist warmers, but gloves make such a difference.now they carry huge snowballs around and got way more familiar with touching snow.i bought gloves that go up high and are thick and warm and waterproof (i got them from reusch, etirel)
on that warm sunny winterday last week i put them in woolpower undergarment.they would wear thin merinowool underwear and on top the woolpower undergarment which is absolutly warm and doesn’t let the snow through right away.i’ve been wearing woolpower undergarment for years.i don’t only use them as underwear but as normal sweaters as well.my whole family has worn woolpower now for years. this year on our scandinavia trip we even went to the place where they make all their stuff in northern sweden and we equipped ourselfes with lots of products (they got lower prices for products with tiny little faults there) and wore them on our campingtrip all day long with average temperatures of 5 °C. of course you can layer the products or buy warmer jackets or vests (400) to put on top of the base layer (200).we think this system works great.those are great functional woolproducts that are made for people who like to move or do sports. so on our little trip to the lake they were warm and were moving so freely, that for me it was another confirmation, that wool layers, no matter which brand or company, are perfect for winterdays as well.for exploring, running and jumping around.
